THE REHABILITATION ACT

The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is found at Title 29, United States Code, Sections 701 and following. The Rehabilitation Act prevents discrimination against and promotes the employment of handicapped people. A handicapped person is defined as anyone with any physical or mental impairment, which substantially limits one, or more major live activity. The Act also applies to individuals with a record of such impairment or who are considered to have such impairment, regardless the present condition.

The law applies to federal government agencies and government contractors and subcontractors.

A complaint should be filed with the employer agency and /or with the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs
